When it's time for the dentist to replace your dental crown, the last thing you should do is put this treatment off. Ignoring the problem can cause more pain and permanent damage to your jaw bone, gums, and teeth. The diagnosis and following treatment plan can only be made correctly by a dentist. These warning signs are often indicators of other dental issues. If you suspect a problem or are suffer from any of the following warning signs, schedule an appointment at Kennedy Dental

Your Crowns Are Old

Depending on the type of crown and other factors like quality of care, a crown may last between 5 and 15 years before natural wear and tear will make it, so it needs to be replaced.

Your Crown or the Surrounding Tooth Has Become Damaged

This issue is generally pretty obvious and occurs frequently. Crowns can loosen, fall out, and shift over time. The patient is usually aware that they damaged the crown as it typically has an inciting incident or accident. Sometimes as fills age, they degrade and loosen.

You Experience Other Dental Issues

A receding gum line around the crown can mean that the crown is interfering with the gums, but it can also indicate gum disease; in either case, you should consult your dentist.
If you experience serve pain coming from or around the crown, it could indicate misalignment, infection, or damage to the underlying tooth.

If you experience pain when you chew, or if your crown becomes misaligned and causes you to feel like something is wrong with your chewing, you can continually agitate the gums, tooth, and bone by using a misaligned crown.
